Menstrual cycle after pregnancy is usually found to be irregular. The periods may be delayed for upto 6 months. Added to this there can be a heavy flow after pregnancy for few menstruation cycle and some woman experience menstrual cramps as well. However, they do not last they get rectified naturally in few months.
First menstrual cycle after pregnancy is the toughest to handle and pretty much unpredictable in terms of date or flow. For some women it can be painful and uncomfortable.
New mothers may also experience PMS usually with vomiting and dizziness.
Lochia occurs after the childbirth immediately. This has blood, mucus and tissue that had lined uterus in pregnancy period. This is mostly mistaken as periods by many. This can have clots.
Breastfeeding highly influences menstrual cycle. Delaying of periods is caused due to breastfeeding. In certain cases menstrual cycle comes only after stopping breastfeeding. This is because of the hormone prolactin. This suppresses the ovulation.
